Nutritional Therapy

“Having been diagnosed with breast cancer, I was in the habit of eating the wrong foods for my body, along with bingeing on sweet foods. Andrea has helped to change my life for the better.”

What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional therapy combines knowledge of up-to-date medical science with an evidence-based whole-body approach to an individual’s specific needs and lifestyle. It is based on the principle that, given the right conditions, the body has an innate capacity to heal itself. Naturopathic Nutrition aims to address the root causes of ill health, as opposed to focussing on symptoms, and stresses the use of whole foods. Today, we see that a return to non- or low-processed, chemical-free foods, along with personalised dietary measures, is an effective answer to many health complaints and common conditions.

Whether you have a specific illness, an acute or chronic condition, or you just feel generally below par, nutritional therapy can help to improve your health and enjoyment of life. Good health is the feeling of abundant energy and the ability to cope well with the physical, mental and emotional demands made upon us. Attaining this level of health can be hard in the stressed fuelled modern world that we live in but you can get detailed and personalised advice in the form of a personal nutrition and lifestyle plan to help you get back on track.

I have a special interest in cancer and in eductaing people to become the healthiest version of themselevs that that they can. But I also help clients with a variety of other health conditions including:

  • Allergies
  • Stress and inflammatory conditions
  • Fatigue related illnesses
  • Diabetes and blood sugar balance
  • Digestive problems

I do use a wide range of tools such as functional tests, genetic tests and blood tests to assess a clients health status and to identify any potential nutritional imbalances. I also offer a wellness MOT which includes testing and interpretation of results.

I do not diagnose or treat diseases, but I often work alongside other healthcare professionals to support my clients.

What to expect in a consultation

Food journal

Before your consultation

You will be asked to complete a confidential health questionnaire and food and lifestyle diary. Ideally you should complete and return this one week in advance of your initial consultation. The information that you give will allow me to do a preliminary analysis and allow clinical research to be undertaken.

Your initial consultation

The initial consultation is normally on Zoom but can be face to face depending on location. During the consultation your aims will be established and the information that you provided in the questionnaire will be discussed. I will ask detailed questions about your current health concerns, symptoms, treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, physical activity, use of medication and supplements and, of course, diet. I will ask questions pertaining to every part of your body so I can evaluate your individual needs. The initial consultation typically lasts between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

After the initial consultation

Following this first meeting I will develop a realistic, personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme using evidence-based nutritional science – a personalised nutrition plan that we will both agree on. This can be sent via email or post and we can then discuss it over the phone or on Zoom. A supplement programme may be suggested and optional functional and / or genetic testing if appropriate. You can expect to:

  • Learn about foods which may have a positive or negative impact upon your health
  • If necessary, be given recipes and meal suggestions as part of your personalised plan

And finally.....

I will recommend a specific time period to follow the plan and follow up consultations will be scheduled to observe changes, monitor progress and refresh the initial plan. The follow up consultations usually last for about 45 minutes and will take place every 2 weeks until the end of the programme. Further follow ups can be arranged if necessary. Some clients like to continue with fortnightly follow-ups to ensure that they are motivated and encouraged to continue with the plan. This can all be discussed at the initial consultation.

There will be weekly email support and encouragement should you need to make use of it following the appointments and I would like to receive regular updates of your progress between consultations for the duration of your programme.

The 8 Fundamental Principles of Naturopathy

The Healing Power of Nature – Naturopathic practitioners work to restore and support inherent healing systems by using methods, foods and techniques that are in harmony with natural processes.

Establish Wellness – The primary goal of the naturopathic practitioner is to establish and maintain optimum health and to promote wellness.

First Do No Harm – Naturopathic practitioners prefer non-invasive treatments that minimise the risks of harmful side effects.

Find The Cause – Every illness has an underlying cause, often in aspects of the lifestyle, diet or habits of the individual.

Therapist As Teacher – A principal objective of naturopathy is to educate the client and emphasise self-responsibility for health. Naturopaths do this by empowering, motivating and informing the patient.

Treat The Whole Person – Health or disease comes from a complex interaction of physical, emotional, dietary, genetic, environmental, lifestyle and other factors. Naturopathic practitioners treat the whole person, taking all of these factors into account.

Preventative – The naturopathic approach can prevent minor illnesses from developing into more serious or chronic degenerative diseases.

Vitality – Life force can be stimulated or suppressed.
